Anything that makes sense won't get done in the UN. As much as I think America should pull out completely, at least being there and having veto power slows them down from causing more chaos.
The biggest question I have beside this is how come that Philippe Lazzarini is still in place and faces no deeper investigations - it‘s an absolute shame! There is no institution in this world where such a person would still be in charge - it‘s outrageous. He should have at least the decency to step down by himself.
I absolutely agree about the harms UNRWA causes. However, there is a significant argument that right now, in the midst of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, is not the right time to defund UNRWA. Everything bad about it may be true, but at the same time it may be playing an essential role in distributing supplies to the Gaza population right now as well.
I appreciate the sentiment behind your response, but it's a full on extension of Hamas. For all we know UNRWA is helping ensure the supplies do not get to Palestinian civilians and defunding it now would expedite aid getting to individuals who need it. I am not anti humanitarian assistance during the conflict, but I don't think UNRWA can be trusted to distribute it. It all ends up in Hamas' hands for a reason. Most of it is collected and sold for profit or destroyed. Nothing in my opinion can make me ever regain trust in UNRWAs ability to do anything semi-competent or altruistic.
US congress is fully aware. We are stuck in an appeasement cycle on one side and an isolationist cycle on the other side. Both those destructive behaviours will likely continue until Iran forces their hand.
Just UNRWA? End the whole UN. Can't spell unethical without UN.
Much longer editorial for another time and not a bad idea either.
I was agreeing you 😊 and going a step further. I have learned so much from your substack.
Let’s make this hashtag go viral: #AbolishUNRWA.
Defunding is not enough. Get rid of it.

Great detail and this should go out to the US Congres!

How can people ignore the overwhelming amount of evidence? https://x.com/eylonalevy/status/1824196452555624674?s=46&t=-lHZOgMP6Y3wrYPKw4Va-A
