After 70 years, there are no more "refugees". With extremely few exceptions, everyone living in any camp is a natural-born citizen or subject of whatever country the camp is in. The UN should be demanding their recognition as such as well as their release and their ability to move about freely or even leave the country if another one will take them. They can't argue that Palestine is a state or a country and simultaneously argue that they are refugees, so UNRWA isn't relevant anymore and should be disbanded.
Excellent summary. UNRWA is a crime syndicate. Only, rather than drugs, its products are fomenting Jew-Hatred and funneling cash to Hamas. Lazzarini is the head of the syndicate, in partnership with Sinwar. They should both be arrested, tried for war crimes and, assuming they’re convicted, executed. UNRWA is also the poster child for precisely why the UN is UNnecessary and should be disbanded. It’s also rife with financial malfeasance, sexual abuse & assault and other assorted crimes. The heads of UN agencies are literally unaccountable and unmanaged. The entire operation serves to provide 2nd rate jobs to third rate people who would otherwise largely be unemployable. It most closely resembles a sewer system!
I still do not understand why it exists as a separate entity outside the UN Refugee program and subject to the same rules. I am sure that still has its own issues, but it can't be worse then how UNRWA exists today and what it stands for.
It is designed to keep the Arabs in perpetual victimhood. They are the only people in the world still considered refugees by dint of ancestry. I feel like if Westerners actually understood UNWRA, they would have a better understanding of the dynamic overall. I mean UNWRA staff were confirmed to be involved in holding some of the hostages. Pure insanity.
Because after the Arabs lost the 1948 war, they conceived UNRWA, and lobbied for the approval of the UN General Assembly, to be a permanent source of instability for Israel. The premise of UNRWA was always going to problematic, by design. But the unholy alliance between UNRWA and terrorism has made the situation untenable for Israel. Instead of building a sewer system, Hamas appropriated UNRWA funding, and built tunnels. Haniyeh died with a net worth of $4 billion! That’s development aid to UNRWA siphoned off by Hamas leaders. The situation is beyond absurd. And the US has the power to force reform of UNRWA by cutting off all UN contributions unless radical reform occurs. USA is 25% of the UN contributions, so the US wallet has enormous weight. UNRWA can only be disbanded by a majority vote of the UN General Assembly. That’s unlikely. But radical reform and a change of mandate, that’s totally feasible.
